Drum brake definition

A type of brake using a shallow drum-shaped metal cylinder that attaches to the inner surface of the wheel and rotates with it. When you press down on the brake pedal , curved brake shoes with friction linings press against the inner circumference of the drum to slow or stop the vehicle. Also see brake drum .
