Diaphragm spring meaning

Diaphragm spring definition

A type of spring shaped like a disc with tapering fingers pointed inward or like a wavy disc, used in some clutches . In an automotive clutch the diaphragm spring is part of the clutch pressure plate . When the clutch is engaged, this spring forces the pressure plate against the clutch disc ; driver effort through the clutch linkage overcomes the spring pressure to disengage it.
