1. Thin sections of lead peroxide or porous lead in a battery . There are two kinds of plates -- positive and negative. The plates are arranged in groups, in an alternate fashion, called "elements," they are completely submerged in the electrolyte .2. Any basically flat surface often used to mount another device.
